The Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) places a legal requirement on all public sector bodies to have a designated Data Protection Officer in place. The “rule of thumb” for private or voluntary organisation’s is 250 or more staff. However, where the GDPR differs from existing data protection legislation is that the volume and complexity of personal data held may be assessed as “high risk”, thus requiring a Data Protection Officer to be appointed.

Responding to clients requirements JALARO now provides the following DPO support services:

  • Data Protection Officer as a service – we can contract with you for an agreed number of days per month/year to act as your organisation’s official DPO. We can provide an experienced, trained and accredited data protection professional to fulfil your DPO requirements without the overhead costs of hiring a full time member of staff
  • Individual one to one coaching for your Data Protection Officer (DPO) or those staff member(s) with responsibility for data protection
  • Direct access Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm through an agreed “call off” contract for your staff to contact an experienced, trained and accredited data protection professional to address specific data protection and cyber-security issues as they arise, e.g. a complex data subject access request
  • Supporting your HR team in recruiting, developing and retaining a suitably qualified DPO for your organisation – designing a selection process, providing data protection and cyber-security interview questions and sitting on selection panels as required.
